Transport

Road transport accounts for 22% of the UK's CO2 emissions and is predicted to grow by a third of it's current level over the next 20 years.  The following tips could help you reduce your carbon emissions and help reduce your travel costs.

  • Driving

If you would like to check the green credentials of your car or brush up on green driving skills then visit the Environmental Transport Association's website, fuel-economy.co.uk or the ActOn CO2 On the Move web page.

If you are planning a journey then Frixo.com may be of help. This site provides users with live traffic information and gets updated with traffic conditions every 3 minutes using various road sensors.

  • Cycling

Chester has been selected as Cycling Demonstration Town and been awarded £2.4m to spend on cycling initiatives over the next 3 years. Read Chester City Councils Press Release or view scheduled improvements to our local roads and cycle network.

Cycle Route 71 passes through Tarvin and is featured on a DVD produced by Cheshire County Council titled 'Cross Country - a bicycle ride across Cheshire'. You can watch this online or order a copy via the website.

  • Public Transport

If your daily commute to work takes you over 9 miles by car, switching to commuter trains could cut your carbon footprint by up to a tonne of CO2 every year.

Use the Cheshire County Council's journey planner or visit National Rail enquiries to see if you can reduce your carbon emissions by using public transport.
