Waste

Every year UK households throw away the equivalent of 3 million double-decker buses (almost 30 million tonnes), a queue of which would stretch from London to Sydney(Australia) and back (source: Waste Watch). The UK landfill sites are filling up fast but there are many ways in which we can reduce, reuse and recycle the rubbish we produce.

Our new Council - Cheshire West and Chester, have launched our new Waste Collection Service in May this year. For further details please visit their website here.

  • Reduce

Help minimise the amount of rubbish sent to landfill. The Cheshire West and Chester and Recycle Now websites have some great ideas for reducing waste at work, in school, in the garden and at home.

Every year in the UK we throw away one third of all the food we buy – most of which could be eaten. Love Food Hate Waste is a campaign from WRAP (Waste & Resources Action Programme) that provides tasty leftover recipes and top tips that helps us cut back on wasting food.

  • Reuse

Squeeze extra life out of the things that you buy and ensure that the energy used to create them was put to good use. Freecycle and Preloved allow people to buy and sell their unwanted goods for free. Alternatively visit the Cheshire Furniture Re-use Forum to see how you can donate furniture and appliances which will help community projects throughout Cheshire.

  • Recycle

Details of our existing recycling scheme operated by Cheshire West and Chester Council can be found here.

Lots more useful recycling links can be found here.
